Tom Jones Goes Gospel

Tom Jones, most known for old school pop hits like She’s a Lady, What’s New Pussycat, and the ever popular “It’s Not Unusual” is putting out a new album next week called Praise & Blame and it’s supposed to be his attempt at going in a spiritual and “bluesy” direction.

Now I must admit, I find his music to be appealing and full of soul. Sure his CD’s aren’t in constant rotation in my iPod but the man does sing and can holler and squall with the best of ‘em. And being the choir kid that I am, his vibrato sends me out of here in a good way. I hear it has covers by Mahalia Jackson and The Staples Singers on it. If I’m able to get my hands on a copy, I’ll tell what it’s like, but if you still have a hard time imagining Tom Jones singing gospel (or gospel-ish) watch this clip of him singing Spirit In The Dark. Let me know what you think. I really enjoyed this!
